I would love to see pics you may have. I rented the cottage in the early 80s. What a beautiful place.

You enter by the back. You walk the trail from the cul de sac and when it veers hard right, you go off, into the woods.

I too atrended the summer camp at Fidel during the late 70's. I had the best camp experience. I learned swmiming, cooking (taffy) and archery. The house and grounds were beautiful. A very special time in my childhood.

My Family and I have now bought Cedar Croft, June 2014. I am proud to say, it is no longer being neglected. The house & cottage is now being brought back to its former glory. Outside as well as inside. It's amazing to watch as a house comes back to life : )

My family and I belonged to the Bayberry club before it became the Fidel school. This was around 1965. The pool overlooked morgans island. The mansion was beautiful and I remember having teens nights at the main house. Who owned this home originally?

I attended the summer camp at Fidel for two summers in the late 70s... The house and its grounds were such a special place to be. It was an amazing camp experience I'll always remember very fondly.

Wing house was called a wedding cake due to the shape of the house. The mature Kentucky Coffee trees, which were not natives thrived at the entrance to this house as well as the west lawn perimeter. Wing house was a beautiful contrast to Salutation.

John Maita (my brother) used to be a production manager. He passed away in 1977 and the age of 38. I was wondering if the exposure to the contaminants were the cause of his death.

I was too a student at Fidel school in the mid 70's. I remember the beautiful interior of the building with the grand marble staircase. The grounds were amazing. I remember the big dome by the water.

Not sure why West Island is referred to as Dosoris Island now, since the pair were West and East Islands Dosoris since Benjamin Woolsey's time.

I actually was a student at the Fidel School from the late 70's through 1981. The building was truly amazing. Makes me wish that I had pictures of the place as it was then. During recesses one could wander around the grounds with a lot less supervision than you would expect from a school.

It's sad to drive past this which is so well maintained and see the mansion and its overgrown grounds on the way to the pistol range.

August 2012, still no ferry! Probably because when it was tried about 10 years earlier it was a major FAIL. It'd be cute how persistent this nonsense is if it weren't closing off part of the "reclaimed" waterfront.

Ruth Hunter was an actress. She started out as a child star playing the role of Ellie May in the original Broadway production of Tobacco Road in 1933. She and her husband Philip purchased the Dairyman's cottage, the dairy and three of the 6 wagon sheds(eventally garages)after Morgan Island Estates was formed in 1945 following Morgan's death in 1943.They lived there until 1954. They had a radio programme in the late 40's and early 50's. The "octagon shaped structure" is the actual dairy but no one lived in it until 1984. It had no heat and the tiled walls and floors were exposed.

I stayed here in the summers of 90/91/92 when I worked as a Nanny. The house was owned at that time (and had for many years) by the Samuels family.
A stunning house!

The "Glen Cove Landing" was actually located several hundred feet north of where you have spotted it. The steamboat dock (landing)was an extension of Landing Rd. that was located on the southerly side of the breakwater. NYYC had their Station 10 located there from 1904 to 1931, whereupon it was moved to the end of McLoughlin St, which the NYYC purchased, bulkheaded, and had filled. Station 10 was located at this new location from 1932 to 1949, whereupon it was loaned to the Marine Historical Asoociation's Mystic Seaport for 50 years. It now resides in Newport, RI on the grounds of the NYYC's waterside mansion "Harbor Court".
